SHE DID IT!!

So Valerie is (by her own choice) strictly breastfed. I have tried off and on ever since she was 6 weeks old to offer her a bottle. She will not drink out of a bottle no matter what. Even if it is pumped breast milk. Yesterday I had a dentist appointment with the dentist I use to work for in Lehi. A couple of the girls and I planned a lunch date right before my appointment so we could catch up on life and my mom offered to watch Valerie while I was gone. Since her feeding time fell right in the middle of my outing I had to take her with me. I was so frustrated by the end of it all that when we got home I looked Valerie in the eye and told her she was drinking out of a bottle and that she was never going to breastfeed again and she just better get use to it because I was sick of taking her EVERYWHERE or planning things exactly around her feeding schedule!! So I pumped and gave the bottle to Brandon and asked him to try (I hear they take it better from someone other than Mom).....and....she chugged the whole thing down in a couple of minutes!!!!! Since then I have offered her the bottle every feeding and she takes it from me now too! She even gets excited when she sees the bottle coming because she knows it has food in it! Ok now is where I ask your advice...again...Do I feed her only out of the bottle now, or do I wean her and do some breastfeeding and some bottle? She seems fine with the bottle so I am wondering if we can just make a clean break. Let me know your thoughts I would appreciate it!

I nursed Daniel until he was 13 months because he liked it and I didn't mind it. Beginning around 8 or 9 months I started giving him a sippy with formula for dinner so he could have more to drink and I didn't have to feed him more than 3 times a day (breakfast, lunch and bedtime). I gradually got him down to one feeding at bedtime and then weaned him in the middle of the 13th month. My advice: If you don't like nursing, wean her. It doesn't make you a bad mom or a bad person. You can keep pumping if you'd like, but by 9 months formula will be okay and realize that 3 more months from now she can have whole milk. Do what makes you feel the most comfortable. It's your body and your baby...you'll know what is best for both of you!

I think keep her off the booby if she already has "weaned" herself. One less thing to take away. And maybe try formula now, then you can be totally FREE! But I'm not a mom, just what I think and what my friends have done.

It will probably be easier for YOU if you wean her slowly, but then it's different for everyone. I usually get to a morning and bedtime feeding and then I stop shortly after that.

Good job! Your a free woman...well not completly, but it still feels good. For me it was easy just to nurse her less and less. (for my poor boobs sake) Its just what ever you prefer. Good luck.
