Help!

I don't know what to do!! Valerie is WAY grown out of her infant car seat and it is WAY past time for us to get her a new one. I decided I for sure want to get one that is convertable so it is the last car seat I will need to buy for her. I try to be a very frugal person and don't want to spend a million dollars on it either. I have been looking and looking online and reading review after review. I think reading reviews makes the decision harder instead of easier! I will read one review and the person LOVES the car seat so much that they are running out tomorrow to buy another one for their other kid...The very next review the person is saying what a huge waste of time and money the car seat is and they wouldn't reccomend it to their worst enemy!! AHHHHH!! What do I do!?!?!

I really like the one pictured above, but it is only available at babiesrus.com so I can't even price shop for a good deal. I want to get a good seat and get a good deal on it. Help me out by letting me know about your car seat expirence...do you like your car seat? Did you get a good deal? Did you pay a lot for it, and love it so much that you don't care? Is there something you know now about car seats that you wish you would have known before purchasing yours? How do I find a car seat that will be both safe and comfortable??

Thanks for your help!!

I have the car seat that is at costco. It is a convertable one. The brand is cosco and I love it! I bought mine at a yard sale for $25 and it was brand new!! I am not sure what they cost right now, at the time they were like $120 and so I was so happy to find one for way cheaper! Costco has good deals and they take great on returns if you hate it. They also have good quality stuff, so you should check them out. I know alot of people who have that car seat and they like it.....good luck! Oh you should check craigs list. Alot of times you'll find great deals on pretty much new stuff. My friend got a pretty much new car seat off of craigs list for $60, but the lady paid a little over $200 dollars for it. Just a thought:)

hey ali, i know i don't have a little one, but my best friend has 18 month old twins and i LOVE her convertible carseats. they're way easy to switch to a different car, they're super good looking, and the kiddos LOVE em too. it is the graco nautilus 3-in-1 car seat. and...they are the ones jon and kate plus 8 use, ha ha. i think they are a little pricey, like $150. but i think it's worth it if you can use it for so long.

that's my 2 cents.

Part of my problem was that I had to buy two, so I really couldn't afford to spend over $100 on each. I picked one that was kind of "in the middle". I have an Evenflo one that is now two years old so I can't find any info on it for you. I take the reviews on a "general" basis; if the overall tone is good and there aren't hundreds of reviewers with the same problem, that's good. I also checked ours with consumerreports.org (there's a membership fee there now) and nhtsa.gov under child passenger safety. You can look up all kinds of complaints and recalls there. I made sure there weren't any major safety things and then felt okay about my choice.

Oh and also, we love our car seat. The people that say the one you like is unsturdy for rear-facing I think are not accounting for the height difference; when you factor in the strap that goes over the seat back, depending on your vehicle, it would probably be fine.

We bought a 3-in-1 for Ryker and there is noooo way ever ever that we would use its base for the booster seat, so uncomfortable and shaped funny compared to the boosters you just buy as a booster...if that ade sense. Anyway, we went out and bought him a seperate booster chair that we love, and Kate is now using his 3-in-1. She still fits her car seat but its not very comfortable for her for long rides. So she started using it rear-facing, and now we turned it forward. It is Safety 1st, sold at Wal-mart at the time, but not there anymore. Lisa and Ry got an awesome one for Raegan, I think $150 ish, but it seemed nice and I think the booster/base might actually work nice as a booster, but I don't know for sure cause I didn't see it taken apart. Just if you only buy one $100 or less cause the price and you ok like it, you'll regret it later. Pay more if the seat has what you want. Altho we paid 130 at the time for Ryker's, and it wasn't even what i wanted (altho I didn't know that)! But if you can use it for your second child and use a booster by then for your first, it works nice...sorry that was probably all jumbled and random. Good luck!

DON'T BUY USED!!! Whatever you do, don't buy used. You never know if it's been in an accident or what. Also, after time the sun wears on the plastic and makes it weaker.

I've personally never paid more than like $70 for any of mine. I'm not picky though. A good old Wal-Mart special works well enough. Will you truly ever use all the fancy gadgets that cost so much?

Good luck sis. ;)

So sorry to be a repeat-long-commenter, but I tagged you. Unless of course, Juli did. My memory just might be that short! Anyway, I did it for sure, so check out my tag post for the info. :)

I agree with Janae. NEVER buy a used car seat, even if the people say its new, or never been in an accident. You can't be 100% sure, and paying more money is better any day, than risking your child's life on a good "deal".
